Hi, my name is Janie, and I am a practicum student at Drake University. I have a background in

human development from Iowa State University and have experience working with children,

teens, and young adults. I bring a calm, curious, and compassionate vibe into the therapeutic

space, prioritizing safety and individual freedom. I believe change happens in authentic, safe

places, and I am excited to work with people of all ages.

I have experience working with children and adolescents in schools, helping them navigate

interpersonal conflicts and improve their social skills. Additionally, I have experience supporting

individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. I aim to create an inclusive and culturally

competent environment where children, adolescents, and adults can explore their inner thoughts,

make positive changes, and experience healing. My goal is to guide clients on their journey

toward becoming their most authentic selves.

Developing Specialities

During my time at Drake University, I have been educated in a person-centered approach. I

strongly believe in showing all my clients unconditional positive regard, and I believe that

everyone has the power to reach their full potential. I also use parts work as a tool to help

individuals understand their internal systems and how these systems affect how they see

themselves, others, and the world.

I also strive to be a trauma-informed therapist and understand how trauma can affect a person's

body and mind. Trauma-informed therapy shifts the focus from “What is wrong with you” to

“What has happened to you,” allowing for compassion and understanding in the therapeutic

space. I strive to be a therapist who understands my clients and their triggers to help build a safe,

healing environment.
