Lizbeth Gómez, TLMHC (she/her)

In person and telehealth

“Together we’ll explore experiences, patterns, and pressures that shaped you — to reconnect with the version of yourself that feels aligned, empowered, and whole.”
— Lizbeth Gomez

Hi, I’m Lizbeth! Outside of the therapy room, I’m a dog mom of two, an ultra runner who loves long miles and big challenges, and someone who will always say yes to a concert. These parts of my life remind me how important it is to stay connected to what makes us feel grounded and present.

Lizbeth became a temporary Licensed Mental Health Counselor (tLMHC) in August 2024 and has been practicing since. Through her work at both the Women’s Wellness Clinic and the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City, Lizbeth developed a strong interest in women’s wellness, advocacy, and perinatal mental health.

Her time at the Broadlawns Drake University Counseling Center deepened her appreciation for working with college-aged individuals and those navigating transitional phases of life — periods that often involve identity exploration, uncertainty, and significant personal growth.

Her background also includes involvement in research initiatives at the University of Iowa related to neuroscience and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which deepened her understanding of the brain’s role in mental health and emotional functioning. This experience, combined with her personal passion for movement and exercise, contributes to her holistic perspective on healing and her interest in the connection between emotional wellbeing and the body.

Specialities

Lizbeth utilizes a blend of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Adlerian Psychology in her sessions. Humans are like a puzzle. Each part or “piece” uniquely shaped by our experiences, holding its own beliefs, feelings, and ways of responding.

Her work is grounded in the belief that we do not need to fix or get rid of any part of ourselves – we simply need to understand them to better harmonize with these pieces. The parts of us that feel reactive, shut down, overwhelmed, anxious, or avoidant aren’t bad; they’ve simply learned to cope and protect in the only ways they knew how. Each part carries a story, and together, we connect with these parts with curiosity and compassion. The goal is to learn how to nurture ourselves differently – so that we show up as a more balanced, integrated version of self.

Sessions will have a blend between general talk therapy and immersive activities, which can offer deeper, embodied healing.
