Play is a universal language of healing—where voices are found, stories are told, and connection begins
— Madde Burma, LMHC

Hi, I’m Madde, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s degree from Drake University and a background in neuroscience from Wartburg College. I’m especially passionate about working with young children and bringing playfulness into the room. I have a down-to-earth energy in the therapy space that helps clients feel safe, comfortable, and understood. I believe healing happens through genuine connection and showing up as a real human.

My clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and families navigating complex trauma. I have worked in a PMIC facility, emergency shelter and provided in home BHIS prior to becoming a therapist.

I have a deep passion for working with preschool and elementary-aged children, using play-based techniques to help them communicate, process, and heal in ways that match their developmental needs.

My background in neuroscience shapes my understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and body. I also have training in EMDR and TF-CBT that allows me to support meaningful, lasting healing. Working with system-involved youth has especially shaped my approach, reinforcing the importance of consistency, trust, and creativity in the healing process. I strive to create a space where clients can experience safety, connection, and even moments of joy and curiosity along the way

Specialities

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and rooted in connection and play. I integrate play therapy techniques, EMDR, and TF-CBT to create a space that is both engaging and healing. I tend to show up as a playful and genuine presence in the room, because I believe therapy works best when clients feel comfortable being fully themselves.

Clients can expect a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we move at a pace that feels right for them, while also gently supporting growth and healing through creativity, connection, and trust.
